The Artist

A Virginia Flower Ceramist

What I Do:

I press flowers into clay! I do this by making flower impressions into clay slabs and forming them into ceramic vessels. The technique is called handbuilding. I also teach art to middle school students and students at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Caroline Velazquez - Flowers In Clay

Meet Caroline:

I studied Studio Art, Ceramics, Art History, and Art Education at James Madison University. At JMU I volunteered as a YoungLife Leader, worked at the campus high ropes course, and met my wonderful husband Chris. When I am not teaching art or making art I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, camping, kayaking, traveling, growing food and flowers, cooking, baking, and being a part of Hill City Church.
